2011 Robot Competition: Ant Foraging

Four teams, 16 students total, are designing and building robotic vehicles to navigate and enclosed arena filled with "seeds" and will collect these seeds and return them to a conical nest.  The best of these will search efficiently, detect seeds as they are captured, retain seeds, and reliably be able to detect and navigate back to the nest.  All robots are fully autonomous, meaning that they work on their own, without a remote control, using information about the world from sensors to make decisions about their actions.
